WASHINGTON — President Trump is leaning in favor of a new Pentagon plan to keep a small contingent of American troops in eastern Syria, perhaps numbering about 200, to combat the Islamic State and block the advance of Syrian government and Russian forces into the region’s coveted oil fields, a senior administration official said on Sunday.

If Mr. Trump approves the proposal to leave a couple of hundred Special Operations forces in eastern Syria, it would mark the second time in 10 months that he has reversed his order to pull out nearly all American troops from the country. Last December, Mr. Trump directed 2,000 American troops to leave Syria immediately, only to relent later and approve a more gradual withdrawal.

well.... better to reverse a mistake, even if it makes you look bad, than sticking to it and causing far higher damage in the long run.

the PKK is considered a terrorist organization in America and all of Europe, and for good reason - because they ARE a terrorist organization.

overall, the kurds are the victims of the developments of the last century, they are the ones being oppressed and the terrorism they suffered far exceeds the one committed by the PKK. all well and good, but none of this changes the fact that the PKK did carry out terror attacks and atrocities of its own, doesnt change the fact that the PKK, and the Kurds at large, are not the completely innocent, peaceul lambs as whom they portray themselves.

I am sympathetic to the Kurdish cause, but this statement you posted is nonetheless pure propaganda crap and should rather be taken with a mine than a grain of salt.

GOP could pick a less personality disordered person next time too.

I think it's funny how bad this guy is and how nobody will acknowledge buyers remorse. People like Glot always double down on the 4d checkers when this guy does something obviously wrong.

Trump hasnt carried out too many policies and decision which could cause a conservative to have buyers remorse. From the pov of his voters, the substance is a lot better than the optics.
You should really keep in mind that many people didnt vote for Trump because they were so enamoured with his personality, but because they really liked the platform he ran on.

Also, buyers remorse entails considering the other option to have, in hindsight, been better than the one made - and I assume that most GOP voters from 2016, even the disappointed and disgruntled ones, still think that what they got out of the Trump presidency is better than what they would have gotten with a Clinton presidency.

They chose Trump over everyone else in their primary and they would have won the general election.

They chose Trump over Cruz, Huntsman, and a lot of other talented dudes. Nobody likes HRC.

I gotta disagree that all these other, vanilla candidates would have won the general against Clinton - Trump was the only GOP candidate who tapped hard into anti free trade and anti (illegal) immigration sentiments, and without those, he wouldnt have won the crucial rust belt states.

It's very well possible that a candidate Marco Rubio or Huntsman would have gotten a higher share of the popular vote than Trump, particularly based on better margins in California and Texas - but probably while losing the electoral college!

Jeb Bush would have been crushed because he's a total loser and pushover, Ted Cruz would have lost handily because he's the most unlikable human being on the planet.
