Hi guys. My dad is looking to upgrade from his 8 year old TV and has his eyes set on a Samsung QLED TV. Now, I don't know much about monitors but I think I read somewhere that QLED is pure marketing that looks good in stores only and that OLED is better. Thoughts? I just wanna make sure he doesn't get scammed by sales people.

OLED should have better (deeper) darks and better contrast in color I think, but QLED is brighter. I would check rtings.com reviews.

Can’t go wrong with the Samsung QLED or OLED. Bestbuy usually has knowledgeable people on their theater sections. And chances are both tv’s will be right next to each other so you can see them side by side. It will probably be preference

Being insulted by a guy that can't get a job in IT is even funnier....

Samsung doesnt even manufacture OLED and you can't trust the biased opinion on the stores as 99% of the staff just tries to sell you the unit they get best profit from.

If the TV will be used in place where you have a lot of light and you watch it with bright lights on then get the QLED. If you how ever want best colors and the space is not too bright and you can block direct sun light and have moderate lights / turn lights of OLED will be the best option. QLED does not work well in dark places as they suffer from light bleeding, this is not noticeable in well lit room how ever and OLED is not optional for bright room as their panels don't get as bright as QLED but will offer more accurate colors and blacks when in correctly lit environment. I personally would get LG B8 or B9 and call it a day, unless the space is really bright.

The TV is close to the window and will sometimes be used during day. Mostly at evening with curtains down though but there will be lights turned on. I wouldn't call the room bright per se but with the other things considered it's probably best not to go with OLED eventhough its better tech. I did some digging and found out that the Q in QLED is basically just marketing from Samsung to make it sound like something fancy like OLED to less informed consumers. Whoever in Samsungs marketing team that came up with this deserves a big raise. Anyways, Sony seems to get lots of praise as well if not going the OLED route so it's probably that or Samsung. Rtings seems to have alot of data I can look into.

Thanks guys!
