Covington came up HUGE for the Rockets today, he fits in so well on this team. I would go forward with hesitant optimism though, Davis dominated as expected against the small lineup and the Lakers tried WAY too hard to feed him all game long. Rockets also won't shoot 45% from 3 each game, what I am most surprised about is how few free throws the Lakers got. Going into this game I expected 25+ fts between Davis, Howard and McGee, 8 total between them.

Rockets took a huge smallball gamble with the Covington trade. They have no size. I'm guessing the idea behind it is playing Harden and Westbrook with 3 shooting/spacing wings on the floor all at once. When it works, the offense will be cooking. But when it doesn't, we will get abused by size.

Can't help but think the Rockets' title window has already passed. They peaked during the Golden State era. The Westbrook contract is atrocious. He's playing well, but I still don't think Morey wanted to do that trade. I think ownership pressured him.

I've been hard on James Harden lately but he had his best game in quite some time!
And no Eric Gordon. That's a good way to go into the all-star break. Beating Boston.

The Rockets don't play again until Thursday, February 20 at Golden State. 9:30 p.m. on TNT.

Houston's title window hasn't passed, Alex. They can definitely win the 2020 NBA Finals but they've got to be healthy in the playoffs. I don't know if they can give it that type of extreme effort in their recent wins vs. the Lakers on the road and Celtics at home, for a total of four seven-game series in a row. They also nearly beat an excellent Jazz team shorthanded but gave up the Bogdanovic three at the buzzer.

All I know is the Rockets will be a dangerous opponent for any team in the playoffs. Their unusual style of play can definitely work.
Small ball is very effective if the team is making shots and racking up a lot of easy steals. Rebounding is less vital if that happens.

The Phoenix Suns have a good young team full of athleticism. It was on a back-to-back without Russell Westbrook and with Eric Gordon going down early in that game. I don't think the Rockets were ready for that road game after an emotional win at Staples Center vs. the Lakers the night before. It's more impressive they nearly beat the Jazz without Eric Gordon and they defeated the Celtics by double digits to snap Boston's seven-game winning streak.

14th Jan 2019: James Harden missed 16 threes (1-17). It ties the most missed threes in a game in NBA history (Damon Stoudamire), and it's the worst 3-point FG pct in a single game in NBA history (min. 15 attempts).

21st Jan 2019: James Harden was 1-17 from three, tying himself for the most missed threes in a game in NBA history.

He'll do anything to get his stats up, regardless if it helps the team win or not. If he's having a cold night, he doesn't give a damn, he will keep chucking to try and get his 30. If you're a fan of Harden you are loving it, you have lots of pretty numbers to look at come the end of the season (as long as you don't look at efficiency). If you are a fan of the team, you know exactly where this is heading.
