looking to get a decent meat cleaver my budget is 200$. Not sure what company to buy from anyone got any suggestions?

I like the Damascus style cleavers.

Anything japanese steel would last longer in my opinion

ok and whats best method to sharpen a basic steel?

The only methods I really know are spending about an hour using a variety of honing stones.

Anything you order from Japan will almost always be good. Shun is a good brand to start with :)

ok thanks :) ill probably be ordering off amazon so anything thats Japanese steel is a good buy.

Yes japanese is the best. German made would be my second choice

thanks was thinking same thing one of my chefs knifes is german steel almost perfectly well balanced and sharpens quite nicely
