The field is very broad these days as opposed to 15+ years ago when I started out. Cloud security and SecOps are the two buzzwords the industry throws around a lot currently if you are looking for a specific focal point, but it is still the same basic architecture and rules. If you follow a strong logical flow you can solve 95% of your issues, end users will never not be stupid/uninformed though, so just be prepared that if you try to build an idiot proof system someone will find a way to around it to save themselves 5 seconds.
