https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/08/19/planned-parenthood-defunds-itself-by-withdrawing-as-title-x-recipient/

Quote
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit rejected efforts to stop the Trump administration from banning abortion referrals at federally funded health clinics on Friday, and on Monday, Planned Parenthood Federation of America made good on its threat to withdraw as a Title X family planning recipient rather than comply with the new rule.
Planned Parenthood receives millions of dollars every year from Title X family planning reimbursements and grants.

Although federal law prohibits taxpayer funding of abortion, until now the nation’s largest abortion provider (332,757 abortions reported in its latest annual report) has been able to claim federal funding did not fall under the abortion services side of the organization.

Trump gets done what Congress can't. I am shocked.

step 1: "now women won't get the care they need"
step 2: Trump hates women headlines
step 3: someone funds PP back to full, and then some
step 4: "this only happens in America"

i for one am happy, i am pro choice, anti abortion, and especially anti federal funding of abortion.

Funny fact is these planned thingies are also helping for contraception.

But above everything: this kind of topic coming back, again and again, year after year, is on my eyes one of the most pathetic show on this website.

This is probably nothing compared to the 20k$ toilets seat issue in your Pentagon.

A pretty sad state of affairs. In some places, Planned Parenthood is the only comprehensive service provider and this action only disproportionately affects the poor and rural.

if there is a demand for comprehensive service in an establishment that doesnt provide abortions (that the Govt will happily fund) then those establishments will arise. the free market is cool like dat.

or option B PP didn't need the 33% or so of their budget that came from the federal govt and they'll find new ways to fund raise the money (they already get a massive amount form wealth donors) and continue business as usual.

i don't see any evidence that this will result in denial of services over the long term. if there is a demand, especially with federal funding backing it, for services that PP can't meet new people will trip over each other to get that sweet govt cash.

I'm happy to have government funding of abortion. I don't like half measures, either abortion should be legal and a form of healthcare, or illegal.
On the other hand, I don't think Planned Parenthood should be getting a single penny from our government, because they're a thinly veiled political advocacy group and are actively ditching their services in order to focus more on campaigning. I don't care if funds can be earmarked for nonpolitical causes, its still fungible assets being transferred to what's basically an arm of the DNC, and I don't think PP should get any more or less public funding than the NRA. If federal agencies want to contract Planned Parenthood for direct healthcare for employees that wouldn't be a problem, just like the feds pay the NRA a few bucks to use firing ranges for training.

NPR should be next. Try forcing yourself to listen to Joshua Johnson on 1A for 5 minutes.
