That's beside the point; also, it's a highly misleading map. A geographic map obviously skews perception, a cartogram would be far better.

Additionally, only showing the winner of each county while ignoring the margins obfuscates reality in the context of the contemporary geographic sorting of American politics. Roughly speaking, the current configuration of American politics is that Democrats win inner-city counties by margins of 80-20, give or take; lose suburbia 46-54 and lose the rurals by 35-65. This configuration lends itself to Democrats having a narrow edge in terms of popular vote while losing a big majority of counties.
