The NYT, WSJ, and BBC have the highest journalistic standards IMO. I can't speak for WaPo because I don't read them but they are probably on the same level as those 3. Again, this has NOTHING to do with editorials. Will those 3 make mistakes? Absolutely. However, they are orders of magnitude better than the rest of the shit you find on the internet.
So going back to the statement, who does a better job than the NYT? I could buy the argument that an outlet like Bloomberg might have better investigative journalism regarding the financial sector, but overall, the NYT would be difficult to beat.
The WSJ used to be great, I haven't read it in some time, so I can't comment on where it's at now.
What is strange with the NYT is that it's the news that has moved the furthest left. The Op-Eds have been all over the place, mostly leaning left, but with the occasional centrist or moderate Republican viewpoint thrown in. It's fine if you just want to know what's going on, but you can get that from almost anywhere. When the NYT is editing article titles because it isn't blue approved, it's on its last legs as an independent center of news.
How do you rate investigative journalism? I imagine we need to add good pieces while simultaneously subtracting the bad ones. The Russiagate coverage was pretty bad. What have you been impressed with?
