Doesn't make a lot of sense. Why would he need to do the physical in different phases? And apparently the Secret Service drove him to the hospital, and standard procedure is he gets flown in Marine One. Seems suspicious.
As much as I hate the guy, I'd never wish illness or bad health on a president. Hopefully he's alright.
Have no clue about whether this exam is serious or just preparatory for 2020 as Trump stated. But I can tell you that as you get older, they DO tend to do exams in stages.
Things like this...
Cholesterol levels blood tests... require 12 hours fasting
Colonoscopy.., requires 36 hour fasting
One of the scans (CT, MRI etc..) requires and injection of a "seeable" solution" before the scan can occur, and time afterwards for the solution to leave the body.
These are just a few that the VA and military doctors start getting vehement about after you pass 50 yo.
Not to mention that in NON-serious cases, they don't "rush" the return of the lab results... they get much lower priority than emergency lab results.
/e As of yet, I have no idea what more tests will start to be deemed necessary after you hit 70 yo, as I've only just turned 63.
