What windows version is installed on your laptop?

If it's windows 7/10 this should work
Click Start, choose Control Panel, and then choose System and Security.
Choose Power Options and then select Choose What Closing the Lid Does from the left pane.
Simply Choose the option you want from the drop-down list.

Try changing it to do nothing if sleep doesn't work for some reason

Your going to want to change your settings to "Do nothing" instead of "Sleep" and don't forget to uncheck the box labeled "Sleep" under your "Shutdown settings".

If for some reason this doesn't fix the issue your having let us know.

Edit/ Don't forget to hit "Save settings" when your done.
