I should note the damage is also nerfed if you're a lower char level than the monster's level
if you're only level 6 and try to use corpse explosion against level 85 venom lords, it only does 7% of its normal damage

and you should switch from LR to AMP before you blow them up.

This is very situational, amp is useful for sure if u pull like 5 mobs. As a summoner/bone necro u always use amp anyways.
