What is the wattage of the power supply?

mm not to sure, it says hi pot ok on it, maybe ill have to take other side off to see?

You might want to slice and peel back that yellow insulation and check the condition of the wire underneath.
If the wire is OK, you can re-insulate with electrical tape or shrink tubing. The main thing to consider with those vid card power wires is that they aren't shorted to each other (no bare wires touching).

/e That weird looking connector is probably a Y cable. They use those when the power supplies don't have the option for a vid card power cable or two. Modern power supplies have two cables specifically for vid cards. They are usually 8 pin or 6+2 pin.

is there any point assuming it would be okay? if it melted through the insulation already ? by the time I saw the cables they were soft and it was melting into one of the black ones, probably caught just in time.

In this situation, the best thing to do is probably just get a modern, decent power supply. That will eliminate the need for the Y cable, and be a lot better for the computer in general.
Assuming it will fit the case... one like this...

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/nB3RsY <--- the Seasonic 520W is only $5 cheaper so I figured... wth. :)

/e Probably should do the thermal paste on the CPU as well. I use this stuff... https://pcpartpicker.com/product/8Mzv6h/zalman-thermal-paste-zmstg2

Thanks mate, do you think that could be the reason it's crashing?
I think there's enough room in my case :)

I'm unsure as to what thermal pasting is but I'll give it a YouTube thanks for the help my dude :)

In my profile is a video about thermal paste. If you look up the power supply I suggested on Newegg... it will have the dimensions. The only other concern is the 4 screw, pretty standard attachment methodon back of the case... for the power supply.

Here... https://www.newegg.com/seasonic-s12ii-series-s12ii-620-bronze-620w/p/N82E16817151096

5.91" x 5.51" x 3.39"

Thermal compound: https://www.newegg.com/zalman-zm-stg1/p/N82E16835118010?Description=zalman%20stg-2&cm_re=zalman_stg-2-_-35-118-010-_-Product

tl;dr version of changing thermal paste.

1. Take the fan and heatsink off the CPU.
2. Clean the old thermal compound off the top of the CPU and the bottom of the heatsink, with isopropyl alcohol and a coffee filter.
3. When dry, put a pea sized blob of thermal compound on the top of the CPU... then attach the heatsink and fan.

Isoproply alcohol is cheap. You can get at any drug store or even a place like Walmart. Get the kind that's 90% or higher.

/e The cause of the problem you're having with the comp, should be....

1. Heat.. which the thermal compound will probably fix.
2. Bad power supply voltages. But that's a shyt power supply... I'd replace in anyhow.
3. W/e caused the wires to melt... may have damaged the vid card. But since it ran fine for a while... it's probably the CPU overheating or the PSU overheating... or both.

Before you buy anything though...it could also just be a corrupt vid card driver.

Do this....

DDU Instructions - Nvidia/AMD
1. Get this program, here: https://www.wagnardsoft.com/ ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
2. Get your vid card driver here, use the Manual Search: Nvidia: http://www.geforce.com/drivers ...or AMD: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download ...save this to your desktop.
3. Run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose: Nvidia or AMD, then choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you. If it wants to go into "Safe Mode", let it.
4. After it's done and comp has rebooted to normal mode, just double click the Nvidia or AMD driver ( that you saved to your desktop in step #2) ...to install. If it want's to reboot, let it.

/e My money is on a combination of old or badly applied thermal compound... and just the general crappiness of your power supply.

You can check the power supply voltages with the free program HWMonitor... https://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/hwmonitor_1.40.zip

Personally, I wouldn't even put one of those no-name power supplies (like the one you have) into a computer. Those things are like running watered down gas in your car.

no drivers were out of date so I went and purchased a new power supply, 500 watts again however there was 8 prongs into the card instead of the previous 6, it seems to have solved my problem for now, I haven't done the thermal pasting as it don't know much about pulling parts out and I got a bit scared to stuff with the motherboard, thankyou very much for your help.
on a side note I have an issue resetting the pc to factory (erasing his data) it goes through the process and then says nothing was changed (I haven't tried since the new psu but I doubt it would make a difference)

I can't help with that. I'm still on Win 7, out of choice. I can tell ya this....

You could format, but then you'd need a new license key for Win 10. But you can buy them on ebay for like $5.
Unlike reset, formatting erases everything on the drive, including Windows. So you would then need to install Windows 10 from scratch.

/e Well you could use AIDA64 to get the current license key for Windows 10. Then just use the media creation tool here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Psst: download all the motherboard drivers, BEFORE you format. Save them to USB stick or something.
