wouldn't you want to get eth? or does it just need to be 1h?

Yeah man I think any eth elite 1 hander would be juicy - mythical/cryptic/conquest

I farmed an eth 3os Legend sword last night. I'm probably going to Countess run the runes to make a new Lawbringer in it, and then try to climb up to LK to farm again. I figure the 500 Countess runs I'll need to get a Lem may turn up a Pul as well.

1 hand gives you the damage. Ethereal for the bonus base damage %

I've reached a momentary dead end. I cannot get past Coldworm and get the staff. The first attempt no fewer than 20 maggots were already in the lair and there was no path to get to the chest. After 2-3 hours and different tactics, I gave up and S/E. Basically, my DPS is too limited

My options are limited. I figure I can do one of the following:

1) Kind of break my rules and go back and farm a Black for the CE charges. This should at least let me clear the chamber once I get enough of the young maggots dead.

2) Break my CC rules and farm for a Voice of Reason sword. The CtC won't kill Coldworm outright, but it'll at least let me clear enough of a path to get to the chest.

3) Break ALL MY RULES and respect for DS for the CE.

Option 1 is probably the most in my rules, but I don't have a base or the runes, so it'll be a slog to get that.

Maybe trying 2-3 times more, maybe room will be less crowdy.
Or stay in a1 trying to find/gamble better wpn.
Do you have Mind blast? Try to convert some of them then use tele staff to tele directly on top of chest?

That is a nice idea which could potentially get you passed this tough spot without breaking any rules. Does Blade Sentinel proc KB? Maybe a few Blade Sentinels all KBing stuff could clear out a line towards the chest also. I think you would be more proud of yourself at the end if you stuck to your rules, but at the same time if you exhaust all options under the current ruleset, it's better to be able to move forward than to give up. I'd try to convert a few monsters with MB to tank as Fyla suggested and maybe look into Sentinel with KB. Just keep your finger on that Esc button in case our ideas prove to be suicidal.

Just use DS. Not sure why you made such stringent rules on an already underpowered build in the first place.

The only reason that I play anymore is to see what I can do with builds that shouldn't be able to go far.
