Depends on many things.

Are you strong enough to be able to tank a few hits on your own? Are you dealing enough damage to kill monsters quickly? If so, you don't need it.

But if you have only mediocre gear, it can be nice to have that tank to shield you from damage. Use Valkyrie and Decoy, both are nice for their own reasons. Decoy can be recast instantly. Valkyrie has a 5 second delay which is annoying.

I am strong enough and I deal enough damage...

Then I say skip it. Maybe use Decoy for specific situations.

Decoy is fine but generally a waste of stat points because javas pretty much melt through everything other than an occasional immune which your merc can handle. If your merc can't handle it, it's better to skip rather than waste time.

As some others have already pointed out - the issue with Valkyrie is not the skill itself (which is useless in 99% of situations anyway) but the fact that the d/a/e passives will make you want to die.

What is your current goal and game mode? Is this single player or bnet?

To put it simply, once you have infinity, the number of unbreakable immunes is very low and generally a non-issue.

On Bnet, just trade for Infinity and ask someone to rush you so you can do cows/shenk/eldritch/pindle.
On SP - you can just do LK runs until you get Infinity - estimated: 40~ish hours but largely dependent on your luck.

If neither of these are an option ... well, it'll be a long hard road and Valkyrie isn't really going to change that :(

Oh that's easy then. Go back to your LK runs for a bit and do some racking. You're looking for a map with a weapon rack that is seeded to primarily produce CV's or any other non-Ogre Axe polearm base. Once you find one, run it a bunch to get some eth bases (from experience, it's approximately 1/50 chance) - Insight is the easiest runeword to make initially if you don't have Infinity runes.

Then it's a simple matter of just running through the game while letting your merc handle all the immunes. Important: SKIP any optional immunes - don't bother trying to fight them. Easy merc setup is Eth Infinity + Eth Treachery + Tal Mask (very common drop from Meph)
