to get 125w what voltage do i need to set it at?

The object of the game is to lower the CPU voltage as far as you can... till the CPU becomes unstable. Then you raise it like .05 for stability.
Just set your CPU voltage at 1.35 and then run a stability test. If if doesn't crash, lower it another .05 etc.
When it finally does crash, then raise it back to the last setting. I got my 8350 down to 1.275 volts. It helps with the CPU and the VRM temps.
If you watch the CPU voltage in CPU-Z you'll see that when left on Auto, the CPU voltage can go as high as 1.45v. You shouldn't need that much unless you are overclocking.

VRMs are voltage regulators. The higher the CPU voltage, the harder the VRMs have to work

not sure if im reading this right but my voltages are going over 2 volts?

btw what happens if i lower the voltage and i start gaming, will there be any effect?

CPU Vcore is the one you want.

/e 2 volts would smoke the CPU.

Here's my 8350's Vcore and VRM voltage and temps...

/e And here it is doing some light number crunching...

....and MORE work for the CPU... aka 100% CPU usage.

As you can see, even when running the AIDA64 Stability Test.... the CPU Vcore stays just about 1.275, where I set it.

With the CPU voltage on Auto in the BIOS, even a game like Simcity 2000 would have the CPU voltage up to 1.45v.

My motherboard is the ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0. It has 6+2 power VRMS. I believe the VRM1 is the 6 and the VRM2 is the +2.

Build it slow, so they can't catch you on the internet. :D

VRMs affect the CPU voltage. The thermal pads on the VRM may be dried out and not transferring heat to the heatsinks efficiently enough.
