So ive been looking into this here and there for a couple days
Been trying to figure out best way to anchor a sun shade to my house (brick house) which will be just a plate with an eye bolt

However cinder block is hollow and the soild parts aren't widely solid so I am worried it might not hold or crack

Any advise?

how much does this sun shade weigh, and how are you going to attach it to a cinder block?

are you going to try and drill then plug with an anchor?

Hardware

And, ill prob look around more once I am in store to see if there is something prob little more secure

OH! ok you're looking at a stationary sunshade, not a retractable sunshade.

honestly cinderblock can handle that load with 10" of snow on it. I thought you were mounting something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Best-Choice-Products-Retractable-Aluminum/dp/B01H116B7G/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_86_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=ZT5HB3ZRPE40D3X4P0RH

that would be more of a concern with load, because it not only has the full weight of the sunshade on the cinder block but also cantilevers out force when its out.

you've got a distributed load, that 5 lbs is split between 4 corners, 2 of which are on your house. so really its more like 5/4 Lb on each hook.

those concrete anchors should work just fine. if you're worried about damaging your home tho buy a cinder block at the store and play around with mounting a few anchors to see if there's any cracking. there shouldn't be for that small of a hole in a 1" thick or so wall of a block. but it could help ease your mind.

If your bolts are going into the cavity of the cinder block, you might want to get toggle bolts to spread the load even more.

Some concrete screws (look like regular screws but with thick coating) could do the trick as far as securing the bracket to the house

I would predrill the hole with a smaller bit then use an impact drill to drive the screw

From the looks of the shade there is probably a lot of tension so depending on the thickness of the bore hole and the space between the screws (and hollow points) it could crack which could be probably be avoided with a bigger plate and more screws

I have drilled into concrete where it had weakened for whatever reason and the screw failed by creating a hole bigger than itself but overall they are very effective

These are for hanging pictures n shit the plasict coated anchors go up to like 50lbs capacity..

A $30 ramset gun is the permanent solution and im a licensed and bonded contractor. So i do have an idea what im talkin about

Nvm just saw the shade is 5lbs. Dont drill use liquid nail...
