I saw someone recommending a one versus one debate format in a locked thread about how to make this sub-forum good again. I think I had proposed this here some years ago and thought it has potential. I would be willing to participate myself but I don't really follow the news or watch coverage or anything so the topics would have to be more vague and easily approachable.

What's your guys' opinions on it?

Its a pretty good idea. It’d force people to stay pn topic and get closure from a discussion. Its a big time commitment though, it'd be hard to keep up that kind of topic. Most people just post here on PaRD a few times during their work break.

I don't think it would be very interesting.

You either get two good posters and they spend all day agreeing with each other with only slight disagreements about the nuances of the topic, get one good and one shit in which case the shit one takes pot shots and tries to meme his way to a victory while saying some truly abhorrent things, or you get two shit posters and it's just a shit slinging match.

Because nuance is where disagreements between rational actors happens... you dont see chemists arguing over if a phenomena happens, you see arguments on things like measurements and interpretation. The "ifs" get settled in the first few minutes and isnt interesting.

Tbh after a few posts none of us are that interesting or focused enough for this to ever work in reality. As thor said not many here can get very far before jerking off their own ego or getting tired of the other person doing whatever they are doing and shutting down in one way or another

People doing this on neutral ground in the same room talking to each other not at each other is the way to go and that just doesnt exist here
