Supposed to simplify it... so... is this negative or positive?
Because I know that:
(-1)^1 = negative (odd number exponent)
(-1)^2 = positive (even number exponent)
(-1)^(-5/8) = ?? (wtf???)

negative.
-1 ^ (-8/5) = -1 ^ (5/8)
this can be written as
[(-1) ^ 5] / [(-1) ^ 8] = -1 / 1 = -1
