whats so bad about a carb vs efi. What am I missing?

Carbs can't save your ass like an ecu(I'd have junked so many top ends if it didn't correct for me)

If you plan on playing with timing and fuel, it's almost a necessity

If you just wanna run it safely a carb is fine, but you might be disappointed

Well I had a bad turn of luck. Got a rebuilt motor bored 30 over, no strike kit or anything so it was a 306 block with stock heads , new timing chain and gears, new everything internally. The guy who rebuilt the bottom and didnt put one nut on the number one cylinder where the rod connects to the crank shaft and it broke 2 pistons and the block in about 30 seconds. Thought it was a lifter tick but it wasn't and it popped right through my oil pan. So the guy I made the deal with hooked me up with the motor out of his race truck he was building. It's a 347 stroker with edelbrock heads and msd ignition. So now I'm swapping all the new parts on to that motor and will hopefully have time to finish it next weekend.

Cleaned up the engine bay now in between.
Got the 347 like this.

And this is how it sits now ready for power washing and paint.

Had a big Holley carb on it and I'm going to run my stock fuel injection system on it for now, and upgrade if it needs it or as cash flow will allow, since now I have 2 motors into 1 job.

Been reading lots of bad reviews on the msd distributor. Anyone have experience with them? Looks like I better keep my factory one in the trunk

The MSD came with the 2nd motor I got. I just used my factory stuff on it instead. Got that motor in last night and the heads were bad, so now I have to get new head gaskets and swap the heads off the last motor. Sheesh this has turned into a nightmare, all I want is a go fast car.

This is the Rod that got tortured.

Right now we think a valve is sticking. I got a couple Ford guys coming over to diagnose it.

Heads were shot, put new heads, a cam and roller lifters in it and new main bearings while I was at it. Runs like a champ now, but the rope gasket for the rear main seal is leaking. I ordered a rubber one and I'll pull the motor this weekend and swap that and just check out the internals and see how they are doing after putting 500 miles or so on it this week. I can't wait to get this broke in good so i can open it up and see what kind of power it really has.
