Does anyone has an indication when the d2 serves will be down forever?

is there a plan how many years they keep em going?

like if the game is gone in 3 years for example its not rly worth keeping shit.

blizzard has never at any point in time implied they will shut down the D2 servers.

the first "warning sign" was the closing of Diablo 1 b.net. but then that was reversed and the servers afaik are back online under the classic games banner.

the second "warning sign" was server migration, a sign that they may plan on unifying servers as the population dwindles.

recent changes to how you log onto servers seems to support that, but also supports that they plan on keeping them live for some time to come. and there's a classic games team hired. with the return of Classic WoW i wouldn't worry about d2 dying anytime soon.

Those die-hard d2 players are on private servers and avoiding this botting site.

Blizzard doesn't leak d2 information. Blizzard pays 0 attention to d2 and the team actually working on d2 has only been 1-2 people since 1.13's release almost a decade ago. The people who "work" on d2 (if you can call it that) do not even know how long the servers stay up because they do not make financial decisions.

Blizzard's design philosophy relies on brand loyalty to ensure they still sell product even when they fuck it up. Supporting legacy games like StarCraft and Diablo is what has kept them profitable through their recent fuckups. The fans know that no matter how badly blizzard fucks up they'll still have other games to come back to while they wait for a new one. Blizzard will never turn the servers off unless Activision forces them to.
