well, you and i see it that way
but the fact that the only big markets left are boston and the lesser of the 2 NY teams in terms of market sizes, and id have to say for ratings sake theyll prob take a hit
Chicago, New York Rangers and Montreal did not even make the playoffs.
All top 5 teams in terms of market value and revenue generation. The Rangers are #1. 3 of your top 5 do not even make the playoffs....
As a matter of fact with Washington eliminated only one team in the top 10 in valuations (Boston) have advanced to the second round. Toronto ( second in valuations) was booted earlier as well by Boston. From a financial standpoint it would have been better to see those teams meet in a later round.
You can try to put a positive spin on it if you want... New teams getting a chance to grow their fan base, exposure to different markets etc etc but There is no way the number crunchers are happy with how this has turned out.
Personally I am stoked to see smaller markets and newer, non playoff regulars get a chance to shine. Seeing the same group of teams constantly advance gets old to me. The Canucks are my team and we have not made the playoff for years so I am speaking as a neutral observer just wanting to see some good hockey.
