at times it is
like sales coupons etc

everything has pros and cons
I wont recommend prebuilt most of time but for example right now slickdeals has 8700/1060 6gb cyberpower for 680
tell me how you going to beat that

2600 + 580 for 650
That's actually a pretty good deal tho.

@OP You could a basic web browsing PC for like $250-300 yourself.

yup
remember society is right now people
plus time is money also for many
I know many capable of building but dont because they are a right now person and/or their time is valuable to them
I usually help those that a favor will be paid back or straight up cash works too but I will not get back into pc sidejobs anymore, dont want the hassle of that again dont need the money that bad

wish the op put programs he needs to run into the post
because anything new can handle most office tasks
but productivity is another story lol
what is productivity for this build?

edit and windows 7 might run into issues for certain users but should basically work for most things

In my view, the problems with prebuilts are

- they give you 1y warranty generally when multiple parts you buy will come with a 5y warranty if purchased individually
- often no info regarding the MOBO or PSU
- often no info regarding which specific parts will be used; they often say "will come with 8gb 2666mhz ram" or " will come with 500gb hdd" but don't specify specs in detail or guarantee which brand they will be.
- more expensive than building your own
