Did you plug the CPU fan wire into the CPU_Fan header on the motherboard?

Did you get the Hyper 212 attached properly?

Thermal compound properly applied?

Did you use the Q-connector when attaching the front panel wires to the mobo?

In the BIOS you can choose: Optimised or Safe BIOS settings ...or you can power off the computer, switch off the power supply and remove the CMOS battery for about 2-3 minutes to reset the BIOS to defauts

Well, yeah, that IS clearing the CMOS (resetting to defaults). Make sure you have the date and time set accurately in the BIOS. If you don't, that will cause many issues with software that is date/ time conscious. :)

seems like whats going on is

if i go start menu > power down, then when i hit the power on button it will boot once and come on as if things were normal

however if i unplug/hit the off switch on the psu after powering down , it will cycle once and then boot normally next time i turn it on

is this normal for these mobos? not that its some kind of crazy issue going on

And you aren't helping :P

Start with the basics. re-seat everything by taking it out from the Mobo and putting it all back in securely. Make sure you are careful and methodical, don't break any pieces by rushing and not looking for clips holding things in.

Once that is done, check your boot settings in your BIOS. Make sure there is nothing weird configured.

If you ahve done additional troubleshooting since, let us know what you have done and where you currently stand.
