but Jussie Smollett is maintaining he was truthful the entire time and was attacked in a hate crime

The only time previous volunteer time should even be considered is as a consideration of character during sentencing, and CERTAINLY not as time served. Agree that it's some serious BS, there. It's basically creating a retroactive sentencing, with the sentence being retroactive to the commission of the actual crime.
