That price is insane. Should compare price to performance. Ones with a gtx 1060 can be found at 1000 bucks Canadian now.

I mean it depends on the game but in my opinion 2x the price for 30 % performance is eh. That assumes 1920 x1080. The 2060 seems to break away more at higher resolutions. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.rockpapershotgun.com/2019/01/17/nvidia-gtx-1060-vs-rtx-2060/amp/

I haven’t found a single gtx 1060 laptop with a reasonable screen, 16GB of ram, and 256gb ssd for less than $1,650 Canadian. Price goes up from there to get a better screen and better battery. The $2,300 price is too steep for me, but similar packages with a 1060 are no less than $1,900 (bezel thinness, screen quality, etc). $2,300 is too much, while $1,900 is too much for a 1060... I’d like to pay less for more, just seems like the market is bad right now.

Please link me to the cheap high quality laptops. I’ve searched through newegg, pc-Canada, Canada computers, dell, Razer, bestbuy, London drugs, and amazon.

If you know of a better source to get a good deal, I’d be very happy.

Thx. That is a low price. I would have to replace the ssd, since I prefer one 256+ sized drive. I’d have to research the screen quality and battery life as well.

17” is a bigger deal for me (15” might be ok) because I use excel spreadsheets a lot, and a lot of half/half screen usage. Over time smaller screens get annoying.

Will put that on the consideration list anyway.

Do you spend a lot of time on the road?

At work I have three 27 inch monitors all with the pivot as I like looking financial statements length wise as well as tax returns.

At home I also just doc my laptop and have secondary inputs set for the laptop. I have an L desk so keyboard and mouse that I game with on one side of the L and a junker wireless set for work on the other side. I run an ultrawide 36 inch at 3440 x 1440 and an older ips 27 inch.

Only time I actually use my laptop screen is if I'm on the road or at a client's office.

I like being able to move around the house, and generally when I work on a laptop the 17” size is something I appreciate. At work I use 3 24” monitors which is a reasonable size for triple monitor work. At home I have a 32” monitor I use. I go to school on weekends and work full time during the week (accounting). I also have to use my laptop for exams which are 4+ hours in length, so that added size and good screen quality are both nice to have. We aren’t allowed peripherals or anything other than a mouse in an exam. Getting more screen real estate is an actual advantage sadly.

Yeah they moved from secure exam to that online cloud thing or whatever. I finished my designation prior to that change. Secure exam was miserable on a laptop screen.

Their new thing is potentially better, but has been really buggy (kind of like the previous one). People have had their computers entirely crash, etc. They don’t award extra time on any exam if your computer is down for shorter than 20 minutes... It’s a real mess.

However, you get to use the actual excel app in the software, so that’s a major plus. And you get access to a limited knotia with full search features as if you were online, also a major plus (ctrl + f does not function however, after a search is done).

Bigger screen with those above features = potential improvements to workflow for the exam.

Yeah. I mean for the few functions you needed during the cfe and mods it was fine but having access to excel is far more realistic. It sounds overall better.

Well good luck. If you ever need some old cases for cfe prep let me know I probably have some kicking around in my hotmail still. They might have changed the format though so they could be dated.

Thx I’ll keep that in mind and definitely msg u when I get there. For now I’ll stay away from seeing them so I don’t overload with anxiety :)

Thx. I’ve been pouring over newegg and I just can’t find anything I want to purchase yet. The $2,300 Asus 17” with the 2060 and 512gb ssd and good screen looks the nicest, but it’s just too steep. If that same laptop had better cooling (reviews show poor cooling), a larger battery, and a better overall review history (mobo might be soso), then I’d jump on it despite the price.

I’m actually really surprised about how poor dell’s laptop lineup offerings are right now as well. They bate their prices and then to get 16GB Ram you have to pay a ton. Even Alienware laptops come with base 8gb. Then you upgrade to 16GB and they put a 128gb ssd in, so you have to upgrade further.

I’ll be glad to make a purchase soon. My fiancé and I are getting married soon and we will have combined bank accounts. I want the laptop before that, ahahaha.
