Thermal paste may help a bit, but I would recommend just getting a tower cooler for like $25.

a bit? hard to say that when you don't know the status of the paste, the cpu is like what 5 years old now?
Do the paste first, the stock cooler is enough if your not over clocking it.

if u alrdy have a paste, remove ur old one completely and apply a little bit of the paste and install the CPU cooler correctly. If you unevenly install it, it's gonna be worse.
also if u dont have a paste and its like $10 one, might as well just spend the extra 15-20 for a cheap cryorig/evo212 cooler, as it alrdy comes with a tube or preapplied paste.

I guess I always assume people with a K sku chip and unlocked board are overclocking (otherwise why spend the premium on them).

socket type.
evo 212 and cryorig h7 both support your cpu socket.
