I prefer Apple products for the convenience and build quality. I primarily use my laptop for:

    email
    minor picture editing
    sharing photos and videos
simultaneously streaming Netflix (via Chromecast or AppleTV) and watching YouTube
minor gaming (primarily Pokerstars and occasionally Diablo II)

I eventually would like to get into ameteur video editing to create family videos. I'd like some advice on which Apple laptop I should upgrade to or if I should upgrade at all.

Current:

As of right now I'm considering the 2018 MacBook Air:

What are your thoughts?

Upgrade your current one with an SSD and 16GB of RAM, if the machine is in good shape of course.
I've done this multiple times in 2011 and 2012 pro models. Actually most times on the 2012 medio :)

Got most of the 2x8GB kits for 60-80$ and a 500GB SSD will run you in 60-70$. So a total of 120-150$.

128GB SSD and 8GB is not a lot in todays standard. And in these newer models everything is soldered so you are stuck with the amount of storage and RAM. Yes you gotta fucking sell your laptop and buy a new one if you want more internal storage, insanity!

I dont think alot of people wanna open up their laptops... and laptops just getting smaller and more portable no wonder u cant upgrade them anymore

dont really know much about mac's but to me it seems like the new 2018 model is not much better then the old 2012 model (LOL) dont know if the air has any active cooling so u might not get the same cpu performance..

so i agree u should upgrade it or buy a windows laptop.. saying u like mac cuz convenience and build quality does not really hold up imo, there is some sexy windows laptops out there, like the surface products

apple planted a trap in one of those models. i remember louis rossmann talking about a wire they have which is super easy to tear if you're not expecting it to be there

Your usage demands are pretty low. No need to full replace for now. I agree with the recommended upgrades. Make sure the exact model of ssd you get is a good one.

Would not advise buying a new Apple product especially the Macbook Air they only get worse with time. You can always buy a better PC for less and load macOS on it.
