I havnt bought a console game in almost 2 years now but with the release of Kingdom Hearts 3 today I was looking into which system would best fit for myself.

I dont have a 4k tv or monitor, just working with my 1440p 144hz 27" g-sync monitor.

From my understanding the ps4 and pro versions do not support 1440p period, but I get mixed reviews on whether the xbox one s/x which do have support for 1440p but if it actually affects the resolution in a notible area.

So is it worth the 1440p capabilities for a console, or do I just get a console for 1080p and have my monitor upscale it?

i had some conflicting answers on this as well, hooked my ps4 (this is a base ps4 btw) up to my monitor (1440p 144hz, acer predator xb271hu) and it played just fine tbh, no black bars or anything that people were talking about, and it didn't look stretched either, i would assume because 1080 and 1440 are both 16:9 it wouldn't have a big difference?
and i'm almost positive xb1 S and X are the only ones that have the 1440p support setting available in the actual settings on the xbox

Glad to hear it wasnt an issue upscaling. and I am sure your right about the xbox having 1440p support but some reviews say it helps, others say scaling 1080 up to 1440 is bascially the same thing.

Also is the ps4 original locked into 30fps, and the pro and xbox1 s/x capable of 60fps?

if memory serves, base ps4 is locked at 30, ps4 pro is 60 by default but can go to 30 as not many games on console are 60?
and yes afaik xb1s/x both do 60, difference being the X will handle it much better because of the ultra beefy gpu in it compared to the S
i'd recommend waiting for someone else or doing a bit more research, i've been out of the console market for quite awhile and am speaking from memory
regardless best of luck
