The whole movie preaches that there is no all powerful evil, that it's the evil in all men we have to be wary of. I loved it, it was like fucking FINALLY someone is doing this right. Then out of nowhere, na, fuck that message we've been pushing the entire movie, here's ARES!!! It was the same shit man and Gal is a terrible actress, she's just really pretty.
Both were equally mediocre and pointless imo. Neither deserved the insane amount of praise they got.
they didn't really abandon the message, they softened it so they could include the cliche superhero bossfight maybe but ares still maintained that all he did was nudge people in the right direction to maximize casualties, and that violence was just a part of who people were
it definitely would have been interesting if there turned out to be no aries at the end tho, or if she found him and he was still crippled from the fight with zeus or something, and had nothing to do with starting the war
