read: most people
most people avoid stigma, and the use of the word as a whole lowers, just look at nigger, you rarely hear people throw that around in real life because there are consequences for it, and even online most people don't say it
I understand what chris is saying but it's not like there's a net negative effect to it, black people were hardly being set up when the word started being discouraged
my experience apparently looks much different than yours because i hear these words on a daily basis
i had an experience yesterday where asking somebody to stop using a word caused them to repeat it several times to spite me
you can argue that it isn't the case for everybody, but you're gonna have a hard time convincing me that this doesn't happen when i see it every day
for the record, i was not implying that black people are setup, or even that black people are the ones asking people to stop saying nigger.
sometimes i am the person asking somebody to stop, and have been bitten in the ass for it several times.
in my opinion, the stronger solution is to tell somebody how it makes you feel, rather than telling them how to behave (not ok in my opinion, even though i do it sometimes)
that might at least teach them some empathy
