I just had a random thought.

The last ten years, we have made stipulations against using words like retard and gay, saying that they are very offensive.

In the aftermath of such implementation, we have created a standard that such words are the ultimate insult. Because of that, words like: "So and so is very autistic, I wish they would just die!" -- "You are so fucking retarded, you're an autistic piece of shit!" -- are commonly found throughout the internet and social media, and sometimes I've even heard such utterances in person.

What say you people?

The extreme versions of insults have historic links to violence and injustices against entire groups of people

Whether it's the mentally ill/disabled homosexuals trans or a race there have been words that went side by side with brutality and/or using them to make the groups appear as lessers in the eyes of society thus justifying mistreatment to the ignorant specifically for their disabilities race sexuality

It's a shitty thing to do to another human and if it's in public you never know who is hearing it or reading it and affected by those words if they are part of a community with a history of having the words used against them

What people do with their friends in private settings is their business but in public people should be more considerate of those around and how words can cause a lot more damage than intended

not really

most people just use the word less when there's stigma attached to it

yes really
if you haven't seen people intentionally being offensive in ways they've been asked not to, id be very surprised considering how often you're on this website

read: most people

most people avoid stigma, and the use of the word as a whole lowers, just look at nigger, you rarely hear people throw that around in real life because there are consequences for it, and even online most people don't say it

I understand what chris is saying but it's not like there's a net negative effect to it, black people were hardly being set up when the word started being discouraged
