It usually take a couple of weeks since the reset and the new start, i guess both coz they need some technical time (also on d2 we have dead time between ladder) and also because they give you time to retrive season items on non seasons (can be a lot of sorting to be made)
concerning the lenght, i don't like either the duration of the next season, i would like to exploit in detail more than one character with the rorg ring but it won't be possible with the time i can dedicate to the game.
i usual use the two weeks for playing worst game like poe: it's funny for 3 days before becoming boring and it build the hype of starting again a superior game like d3
PoE is far superior to D3.
You can still play your same characters they are just moved to the NoN Seasonal servers, and all your crafting mats, gold, items are moved to Non Seasonal as well.
If you don't want to remake your chars every 3 months, then play Non Seasonal......don't complain about not liking it. It is a choice to play Seasons..not mandatory.
