I'm having a genuinely difficult time understanding the hype

Bland generic chatacters, formulaic by-the-numbers plot, mediocre animation that falls off completely during action scenes

It's the worst case of overhyped edgy trash anime since elfen lied honestly (goblin slayer a close 2nd this season)

can't really agree with most of the stuff said.
yes the plot is predictable to a point but that's hardly a negative as a lot of anime is like that.
the other 2 points had me thinking he watched some other anime. (Hyakimaru and Dororo are great characters plus the animation has been great, espcially in action scenes)

Also Elfen Lied isn't even that bad, it's decent and not even that edgy to my memory. (you what edge? watch Tokyo Ghoul, personally i'd rank that lower)

Ellen lied was good, but it totally lied about being an intensely dark action anime with that opening scene and then the lack thereof darkness and action in the remaining plot. Pun intended.

But yeah the animation has been excellent honestly, and the characters are interesting and quality.
