When testing max, you want to go to a comfortable weight. When you can't succeed in going through a full range of motion of the exercise (mind you, i normally help myself if absolutely needed for the last rep) then use a 1rm chart.
If that's what your talking about.
Basically i stop when I can't do anymore, should always have full form when doing exercises unless you're doing a modified version or specified sets
