If I know it's a 20-mile hike from point A to point B in an arid & harsh environment and I know I wouldn't make it, the probability of me staring the journey is near zero.

If I know it's a 20-mile hike from point A to point B in an arid & harsh environment and I know I wouldn't make it, but know there's a 50% probability of finding water/food which would allow me to make it, then the probability of me starting that journey goes up.

It's reductionist but that's how it works.

Your opinion is irrelevant. As is the opinion of Mexican criminals.

At least some people took on more risk than they would because they knew there might be water jugs along the journey. It's impossible to quantify but that's just fact of a logical world.

Your first post on this implied that more people died from thinking they might find one of these than were saved.

Good to see you're weakening your stance.

With that I can agree, but when you're at the start of the desert, ppl will go, with or without stories of water bottles in the desert.

You are unaware of what you believe in and pretend to be a centrist for some sort of moderation fallacy.

Strange assessment. I "believe" you smashed your keyboard typing that tho.

Saw the headlines, normal fare for clickbait. Watched the CBS evening news, they framed the story 100% on ICE and simply did not mention the girl had no food/water for days prior or that the dad did not say she was sick until 7 hours after being detained or that it was septic shock. The live evening news just said she died in ICE custody of dehydration

These are the same people who want to curate and police all social media and advertising for 'fake news'

Yeah, this is the sort of stuff that MSM routinely fucks up.

Enabling people to embark on dangerous journeys because you want to feel good about yourself and tell your hipster friends what a hero you are doesn't actually help those poor people. It's part of the reason why they go through tens of miles of desert, because they heard of people leaving jugs of water. So what happens is children are dragged through perilous terrain on hope. I wonder if that family embarked on that journey because they knew they might find jugs of water somewhere. I wonder if they knew for a fact that there was no water, maybe they would be more cautious and think of their actions?
