i've tried quite a few different settings. it appears that setting the target core voltage completely screws the software up.
it never could stick to that target when set either.

this is a current update i guess. there isn't any adaptive power set, so it's pretty much always powered @ max. i'm assuming this is why my temps are so high @ idle. i rarely even hit 40C before under moderate load with a different 5.25 OC.
i'll keep playing with this thing as i'm just curious, but i'm pretty close to uninstalling AI suite

the numbers bounce from 4800-5200MHz on both CPUz and AI suite. if you're curious, most of the sensors do appear to work correctly. however that 1 setting was really screwing things up some reason.

also it may not be obvious but 9200 mhz is insane compared to 8400mhz. That's gonna be drawing exponentially more power.

Not that insane. The Bulldozer was 4.0Ghz Turbo, the new Intel chips are 5.0Ghz Turbo.

ok, this is better. that last pic i changed the bus clock to 100 and adjusted the core multipliers slightly.
this is the same setting as that last pic. i guess i needed to restart for for the adaptive power to kick in.

this isn't the worst OC. at least i'm not going over 1.35V now. all i really wanted to see was a decent stable OC that could run the benchmarks i have since the addition of 2 more ram sticks.
i know i could get higher stable results, but i still have an issue of higher ambient heat due to where i have this pc sitting. think i'll call this good for a while.

the high difference in numbers is due to the adaptive power, they are both bouncing to the same numbers.

irrelevant with the kinds of overclocking being discussed here

guess i would have to agree with you both.
the numbers can possibly be reached, but not with my system and i'd doubt i'd trust automatic settings that high in any system

that cpu cannot hit 9ghz ever, i dont think it matters what system it is in

what would you guestimate the max on this particular cpu?

a quick google shows 7.4ghz as the 8700k record, but that was stable under full load. You could probably get at least 300-400mhz above that and be just stable enough for a quick cpuz- validation as soon as the desktop loads. Beyond that I doubt it. Your chip mileage may also vary, that was obviously a golden chip.

at this level, overclocking no matter becomes limited by thermals or by power but by the architecture itself, so yeah that's why fx is untouchable

ya i started looking around and found the same @ 7.436
i'm not looking to take my chip to something like that... ever lol

the most i currently have a vision for is 5.4 under full load without breaking 80c. this would be after i de-lid the cpu and upgrade from the AiO liquid and build my own loop.
