This. The nostalgic memory of Vanilla times, if people even have played themselves back then, is a very deceiving one. The most important factor is that every improvement in the game after Vanilla hasn't been around back then, so one wasn't used to the comfort or change it would provide later on. You can hardly turn back on stuff like that, humans are creatures of habit and hate to leave their comfort zone, even if that added comfort changes or worsens the gaming experience in some way.
I do enjoy the Vanilla content a lot, but actually going back and playing on that level is a damn pain in the butt.

Regardles, I had a blast but as I mentioned elsewhere... there are way too many issues with Vanilla. It did well back then because there was little to compare to. Class/spec balances blew, PVP was balls (world pvp was okay for some classes), and farming/leveling... oh my god the amount of time it took for questing was hell.
