Hey guys, I made a rookie mistake and pretty bummed.

I saw the check oil level come on my Volkswagen and I don't know too much about cars. Took it to the dealer and they said changing oil is not necessary, just buy some oil and top it off.

So I basically went out and bought 5 quarts of the appropriate oil and poured it all in. I realize now that my car is now WAY overfilled with oil and I'm getting it towed tomorrow to a shop.

Question:
Last night after I already poured in the oil, I started the engine for about 20 seconds to move it off my driveway. Then I went to bed and thought about what I did. Is this going to cause significant damage to my engine even though I didn't drive it anywhere far?

you should be fine, its not like you ran it around. but overfilling is not good, you dont have to tow it, just drin the oil and do an oil change yourself.

If you put 5 quarts in, I doubt it was super overfilled.

every vw has that huge do not overfill sticker in the hood you cant miss it lmao

I wouldnt drive it personally if you have 8-9 liter of oil in it

its either fine or you blew out multiple seals cant see much of a middle ground.

why tow? pour out some and call it good.
