went to bios, no XMP settings available. Cant adjust voltage or anything. apparently like our friend said above, HP likes to lock BIOS so we cant fuck with it.

in the S/S I posted, it shows the DRAM freq as well just as regular frequency. That's the exact same speed as it shows in ''DRAM freq'' so i went ahead and updated bios but still no luck. the Tech at fry's (where i got it from) said the same thing as i read, HP likes to lock stuff so people cant fry slots or mess with stuff.
now i need to see if there is a way to manually do it through another program like omen command center or something.

just annoying as Fry's should have disclaimed that it is a non-up gradable MOBO. fuckin bullshit!

Yeah. That's pretty much what I said in post #4. With prebuilts, nothing is easy. :/

/e It's not the mobo itself that is un-upgradeable... it's the BIOS chip on the mobo.

You'd have to look at it... see if it's soldered in, or has a plug in socket. You MAY be able to find a 3rd party BIOS to flash the chip with. But not a lot of folks bother to write 3rd party BIOS for a motherboard in a prebuilt.

Keep in mind, there is nothing wrong with the BIOS chip itself... it's just code it has been flashed with. You need a BIOS code that doesn't have the limitations.

/e I wouldn't kill myself looking for one, I doubt you'll find one. There needs to be a ton of people that want a 3rd party BIOS, for that motherboard, before some coder will go to the effort.

/ee Check the BIOS again... look for an Overclock setting, and set it to manual, then look for a DRAM Frequency setting (it may now be user changeable).

/eee Here's mine. It's an AMD motherboard, but it'll be similar.

On mine I would have to set AI Overclock Tuner to Manual, THEN I would be able to adjust the Memory Frequency.

ive actually OC my ram on my old gaming PC w/ timing, volts, freq, ect. So i'm familiar with the setup, in which my new 1 does not have any where close to an option like that. its actually really really tacky setup for a bios on this HP omen. would only recc this if people were novice with pcs and didnt wanna mess with this.

i just jumped the gun cuz my girl was paying and she financed 1300 of the 2k which i thought what the hell is 100 bucks a month for a upgrade from an old i5 w/ a 970 lol! my fault for not looking into it a little bit more.

edit: i was hoping thatsince it said xmp 2.0 ready on the box of ram, it might do something to bios lmaooo! very wrong. fuck it imma keep it till i get a new mobo.

It would make a difference with higher speed RAM, but not as much as you think... I'm guessing.

whelp i play a lot of pubg which is very poorly optimized and on my old i5 w/ the 970 i upgraded from 1600 to 2133 and gained like 15 fps. so i figured from 2400 to 3400 id see some more stable FPS and for 150 bucks 3400 16gb seemed worth it.
