HP 8437 (U3E1) is the mobo i have, bought the prebuilt omen gaming desktop cuz they let me finance it lol. i figured 200 bucks a month for a pc is better than 2k outta pocket all at once and easier on the blood levels.

question is, i want to upgrade to 3k-3400 mhz ram but i can figure out if it even supports anything over the stock 2400mhz.

anyone got an idea how to figure that out? i have speccy and cpu-z

It's hard to know for sure. HP may have put a limit in the BIOS that we know nothing about. Technically RAM at speeds like 3200Mhz should be fine. But who knows with a prebuilt. :/

/e Only way to KNOW for sure is to call HP.

find the chipset and you'll know whats compatible.
The site you linked references the prebuilts name.
prebuilts can be shipped with many different configurations.
with that being said it's probably the first one linked.

whelp i know they dont have any XMP settings in bios so im skeptical that it can handle anything over 2400. atm HP is closed so i cant call till tomorrow. almost tempted to go buy the ram and try it out, return it if needed.

Just call HP. W/e speed RAM you and HP decide on will still be available tomorrow.

NO need to call, just update bios and if still no XMP mode you'll know.

Pulled the trigger, no dice! last section does indeed say 1700mhz though, which is confusing lol

You need to be on the Memory tab in CPU-Z

/e Where it say DRAM Frequency... multiply by 2 to get the Frequency the RAM is running at.

/e You may have to enter the BIOS and manually set the RAM speed.

Here's mine. The RAM is running at 1866Mhz. If left to itself, the BIOS will run the RAM at 1333Mhz. In the BIOS I have to manually choose 1866Mhz.
