I’d like to keep it under 1000 total, and I’ve never been a super gimmicky guy, so I’d love to be informed before buying.

What exactly would I see different if I got the i5 8300h? Most affordable laptops have that processor

It came down to the Dell g3 and the Asus nitro 5.

I ended up with the Asus nitro 5 with the following

i5 8300h quad core processor
GTX 1050 Ti graphics card
8gb ddr4
256 gb SSD

I'm pretty happy with my purchase, I watched quite a few videos of gamers playing AAA games with medium to high settings and hanging anywhere from 40 frames on the high settings to 60+ on medium and low settings.. I'm sure it'll do exactly what I need it for.
