Hi Guys,

I used to be a pretty active poster in this forum (some might remember me) but life got in the way and sold my computer etc.

Looking to build a somewhat budget gaming computer again

I live in Australia so if you wish to help use the website below (main computer shop in Australia)
Build so far:
https://www.pccasegear.com/wish_lists/867753/comp%202

I have a spare samsung pro SSD from my old computer, hence the M2 256 for OS.

Would prefer to go Intel but seems to be about $200 more when I made a few builds, would prefer to keep the cost down around $1400 AUD.

Thanks

The faster ram will help a lot with 1% low frames.
Use your existing SSD as a cache drive for the HDD via AMD's storeMI.
CPU cooler will allow for more headroom with PB2.
Case will have better airflow and just looks better IMO, but that's really up to you.
PSU is better.

I like the build but I think you could for sure get a cheaper psu https://www.pccasegear.com/products/42287/cooler-master-mwe-bronze-550w-power-supply. I dno why zell suggested that monitor over the one you chose. 144hz might not come in handy for every game but its nice to have imo

i5 8400. Cheaper overall setup than the 2600x and better for gaming, if not trading blows. 2600x is better for productivity, but you're paying more for that and your goal is a budget gaming build so
if ur srs about building a budget gaming build, 8400 + better GPU is the way to go
u prefer using pccasegear or pcpartpicker?

2600x is like $10 more aud, and you completely lose multi core enhancement and the ability to overclock manually. Also stock cooler is shit and will throttle. The i5 is only better for older games that can't take advantage of all available threads. The 2600x is considerably more future proof.

Monitor he had chosen was 75hz ips...
/e he changed it after I posted. It was the 27" version of the LG one I chose above.

Depends if he will use pcpartpicker. From the OP post, looks like he wants to purchase from the website he provided and it's $50 more AUD.
fucking lol'd at stockcooler will throttle, their stock cooler isn't the best but it's not total shit like AMD's old stock used to be. No need to fanboy, just be objective ffs.
Have you compared both CPU and played games on it? Cuz if you did, you would know that in gaming the 8400 is still better, especially at its budget cost. It's better in literally majority of the games, including some new ones.

For the 2600x to be "slightly" better in gaming, you'd need to spend more $$$$ on a higher timing clock ram, buy a decent mobo for OC, buy an aftermarket fan if he's srs about reaching 4.3+
or you can just fuck off with that shit and just buy the 8400 which literally is the best perf/$ for gaming chip and be done with it. Hell, upgrade a tier higher gpu with all that cost saved.
Example if OP will use pcpartpicker instead of his own website: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/Hv2Hr6
Total $1446.50
Also future proof means jack shit, cuz both CPU will be outdated by the time OP needs an upgrade, especially for gaming. You can trust me, the 6 extra threads & multicore/OC he may or may not use to its fullest potential at the cost of downgrading monitor, gpu, psu, and overall gaming experience from the start is far less futureproof.

The 2600 dumps on the 8400 price/performance ratio. Higher all core speed, and equal single/dual core boost speeds, for significantly less. If you go watch benchmarks, the 2600(x) at 4.0 ghz is within margain of error of the 8400. For that cost saved you could upgrade to a 1060, but then you lose the ability to use freesync.
Also, literally none of those parts you listed were downgraded to fit budget, not sure what the hell you're talking about there.

What benchmark are you "watching?"
Gpu is an upgrade
Monitor is an upgrade
Sirtec>cwt
Overall gaming experience is an upgrade.
Ur logic, he should get 580 so he can use freesync on a 75hz monitor? Yet ur concerned about futureproofing... when he can literally get A 1060 with 144hz monitor.
8400 is the best gaming chip for its cost, idk why u bring up cpu perf for cost when I'm talking about gaming builds the OP is look for. Also in his country, 2600x costs more than 8400.
Even the links yup links has 8400 beating 2600x/2700x in games. Not sure if you're trolling at this point.

I'm forced to think that you haven't really experienced what it's like to game on either chips.
