What's your opinion on the pro/con weight of having plecos in your tank?

Depends on how big the tank and what fish are with it. Plecos can grow big and eventually out grow their tanks. If they're small, bigger more aggressive fish may pick/bully or even feed on them. I had all kinds of cichlids with different types of loaches years ago. The Clown loaches did well but the Firetail loach died hiding from the cichlids and he was bigger.

Pros: they go well with about any fish possible. No one bothers them and they bother no one else. They also clean everything and love keeping your glass clean.

Cons: they can get up to 24 inches long. Find a local pet shop you can donate your pleco to if it out grows the tank.

That's my 2¢. Have a gif.

I’m more curious on your perception about how there’s a lot of talk on how they dirty the tank more than clean it due to their high nitrate release compared to other fish.

I have a bunch of plecos. I love them. They are messy. Get a pleco because they're cute and have tons of personality. They aren't clean, they aren't cleaners, they increase the bioload quite a bit.

My 75 gallon has 2 golden nuggets, a snowball, and an albino bristlenose, and my 150 gallon has a leopard pleco, royal pleco, and a bristlenose pleco.

Also tons of corydoras.

hey looking to get my first aquarium and most likely gonna get a 55 gallon as i live in an apartment so cant really go much bigger. is it cheaper and better to buy everything seperately or get a starter kit, the top fin one looks good but i heard the heater and filter are not really good. wondering which is the best way to go.

Definitely get everything separate. I initially bought one & ended up replacing everything separately.
