I didn't watch it i read it. It's not his power i dont like it's the bullshit he pulls through with it, but i wont say more since i'd spoil you if you didnt read the whole thing. I'll try true detective you're the second one mentionning it thanks!
Was recommending it for Mason, you probably won't enjoy it.
I've read most of the manga. They've gone into his backstory a decent amount and his power stems from his ability to quickly adapt to anything. Bungie Gum itself has many uses, but it's not an overpowered nen ability by any means. Just the combination of its versatility mixed with his resourcefulness and his ability to adapt, is what makes it and him so OP. Again though, you disliking a single characters usage of his abilities doesn't change that the author has been working towards a singular objective and eventual conclusion to his story.
There's a MASSIVE difference between having a blueprint for your story and then filling in some pieces here and there to complete your vision, versus a story with a hook and a secret that never amounts to anything. It's always the exact same with the network shows. Here's this big thing, omg, it's sooooo big and important. Finally you find out what it is, but none of it matters, cause there's this BIGGER secret now. It just keeps pushing the same thing over and over and over, until they run out of watchable ideas. It's not a real story, it's a fucking gimmick and it ofc works, but it's terrible writing and it makes for bad TV.
