Anyone in a city where it could go? Being in Potomac MD, which is in Montgomery County and being 15 mins from DC or Northern VA, this is interesting to me.

What impact do you think it’ll have on that city’s economy? Do you think it’s good or bad that it’ll likely drive up home prices?

Thoughts?

moar traffic in that area lol that’ll be fantastic with its inefficient road systems that are already unable to support the population growth

Billions of dollars to fix it though. Maryland for example is adding 2 lanes to i270, 295 and 495 to make room for it. Amazon’s huge tax breaks include part of this.

It’s interesting because it’s forcing governments to pay attention to their issues if they want to attract business

Oshkosh was tossed around as a potential site for Google fiber, as it's a good experimental city for it. Mid sized with growing potential. But our infrastructure and other reasons stopped it.

I think any city that becomes one of these pet projects has few reasons to not like it. You're the first to get drone delivery and jobs and house prices will rise. I don't see any negatives other than losing the "hometown" feel for certain areas.

What do you mean by "Amazon's huge tax breaks include part of this"?

The nation needs to take the model of places like California. If you want to attract business long-term you need a robust educational model and well-maintained infrastructure. Tax breaks only work as long as somebody else isn't undercutting your tax breaks, but eventually you can't afford to maintain the roads and nobody wants to live there. Here in Missouri we've been cutting taxes for a long time to try to attract businesses, and we've had to cut way back on roads and schools making it even more of a shit hole in the long run and further deterring business from everywhere except KC and St. Louis.

which im sure will be managed with utmost efficiency

although Hogan has done a decent job in MD, imo. I do like the idea of a business and growth/job opportunity forcing state and local governments to fix their issues and hopefully cut some bloat (hahahhaha we can all dream)

Missouri just needs to get more natural resources, all you guys have is inferior to Illinois corn and racially sparked riots that spawn a movement. Oh and that Arch, what a tourism draw.

Yes, California does a great job. They have no deficit and great infrastructure. I hear you can travel 3 miles in LA in under an hour now. Making great strides.

and enough regulation to scare off business investment forever. if they had the climate of Maine it would be a less populated state than Alaska.

That’s really the truth. People move there because of the relaxed vibe in work culture and the great weather with little rain. All great reasons to live there, but the government is run poorly.

Oh and by tax breaks I mean MD for example is giving plenty of money to amazon via tax breaks dependent upon metrics. However, a huge portion of the $8.5b is for infrastructure improvement, which will benefit Amazon but also the rest of the state.
