This one has a nice background, it could maybe even work better as an abstract without a render. I think you have some good ideas but are pigeon-holing yourself on this one style. I guess you might benefit from trying something else for a while, it probably sounds cliché but achieving that goal aesthetic might be easier if you didn't go straight for it, but learned doing something else in the process. For example, you could try working with real life photo stocks to get a better grasp on what needs to be sharpened. As for color choices, you want to complement your render without making it look boring, now it seems as if you don't really care about your render's colors or try to manipulate them to look like something they probably shouldn't look like. I think the inspirational pieces you posted are good examples of complimenting the render.
