id like to run d2 in ubuntu but all the options ive tried so far have failed. i can get the game to run but cant use battle.net due to the only methods ive gotten working have been the 16 digit key installation.

is there a way to get the newer installer working without using a vm?

I wonder if it just has to do with privilege level (equiv of run as admin on windows), because I know you have to run as admin to play online on windows. You're honestly probably better than me at Linux, just try and poke around for a setting like that.

ya ive been toying with it for a few weeks now, i figured post here see if anyones already found a way to get it working on bnet.

as far as i can tell all methods use wine to simulate windows, so priveleges shouldnt be an issue, and the playonlinux and lutris methods for installing with the blizzard installer are outdated to the previous version of the blizzard installer as far as i can tell.

im not into assembly code so im not about to try rewriting the installer lol.

Yeah, that's why I just have dual boot on my desktop. I'd love to just use Mint 24/7, but gaming is still just easier on an actual windows OS. One day, Linux will have enough gaming support, and windows will never be installed on one of my machines again, but since I play a lot of blizz games, it's not any time soon.

With proton coming out via steamplay its gotten 80% better imo. but theres still a few like d2 i want to play that im limited to offline only, mostly due to lack of knowledge on wine.

i didnt manage to run d2 on a fedora 28 box using wine, so i just used virtualbox and installed windows 10 to be able to play d2.

Ya im aware of virtualizing windows, id just rather not have all the ram usage, i know wine can run it im just not familiar with the advanced wine stuff to get the new installer going in ubuntu.

ive been playing d2 on linux for a few years now, blizzard just recently stopped allowing 16digit installs and they updated the installer for it, doing that broke it for me and im sure many others.

yes, same thing here, played for years on linux and they broke it for me too. i have 16gb of ram and use about 4gb on that virtualbox win10 guest.
