For what you paid I would have thought the cheaper route would have been a rebuilt trans

Rebuild would have cost me at a bare minimum $800-900 and that would have been some garage mechanic level shit, a professional rebuild can run anywhere from $1200 to $1800 for a fairly vanilla 4l60e build and more if you go performance, and a new one will easily run $2,000-4,000

I'm probably close to $800-900 all told, but that's including the aftermarket cooler, temp gauge, new torque converter, all the upgrades (shift kit, HEGs, etc), drain bung, temp sensor bung, tools that I had to buy or build, trans line flush, trans fluid, filter and gasket kit, spray paint, etc...

yup labor is where most the price on that stuff is at.
