hi mate :)
I just wonder if it is a must for website to have that annoying pop-up asking you to accept the privacy policy & that a website is writing cookies?-->
It is mandatory under GDPR law that IF you store data allowing to identify a visitor on your website (throught cookie, localstorage or anything else), HE MUST EXPLICITLY AGREE IT (that popu-up is not even enough regarding GDPR, some serious website don't allow user to access the website without accepting their policies)
you must also state in your privacy policy which cookie use you and for which purpose.I've seen some sites have this, but others without it... Shouldn't a clear link in the footer be enough?-->
nope ^_^
And what kind of punishment could there be if you don't have a popup for this?-->
to be honest, unless you run a company that handle users personnal data like their personal location, names & other info
you don't really care thoughts, if you just have a forum or non commercial website that should be fine (also if you don't have ads on the website)more info here

In my opinion a site-block popup like that ruins for business, it is very unfair when you compete internationally and really stupid. We have all read about it and seen it ourselves that people leave a website after just a few seconds if it is not fast enough. If GDPR requires that people sacrifice their customers then I must say that something is very wrong.
Once again EU is writing laws in a stupid way. GDPR is a good law and a step towards the right path in the modern world, but does anybody actually care enough about it that they want to hustle around with stupid popups on their cellphone+computer?
There must be some better way, more efficient way to have a running website in a legal way!
If we talk about the punishments for breaking the gdpr law by having a neat little bar instead of a big site-block, it sounds like it pays off very much to break it.
I can not understand how the world can approve this? Somehow an opinion about this should be given to the founders of this specific law...
