1k for a standard non-trash set up
~500 board
~250 boots
~150-250 for bindings

Don't ever buy into the "rent to buy" set-ups stores try to sell you, it's usually trash

Don't forget proper jacket, gloves, helmet, goggles, snowboard pants, etc.
That could add up to another few hundred bucks pretty quickly

You're quoting someone with a mere 950 fg. I seriously doubt he can afford bus fare into town let alone new clothes that aren't provided by his local shelter.

Certainly not. I doubt he can even afford the minutes for his tracfhone to hot-spot his Diablo II access anyway.

Consider a Burton Custom Board with ICS.
You'll want ICS bindings as well
Burton makes compacted boots to limit toe over hang.

Burton custom when i bought it in 2007-2008 was like $599
Bindings can be anywhere from 199-399 depending on tech you want in them
Boots - spend the money here - if your feet aren't happy - you won't be happy - these can be $199 - $399 for a very nice pair

Jacket + Pants 150$ each

Nice gloves with impact wrist guards - 75-125$

East coast ice - or any place that has ice - you'll want tailbone protection/ impact shorts - 50$

Googles - Anon - 80$
